IRCTC responds after video of rats in Maharashtra-Goa train pantry car goes viral

A video has raised serious concerns about the hygiene and quality of food on Indian Railways. Already viral, the video shows rats nibbling on food inside the pantry car of the Lokmanya Tilak Terminus Madgaon AC Double Decker Express, a train running between Maharashtra and Goa. IRCTC has reacted to the post as well.

Shared on X (formerly Twitter) by Mumbai Matters, the video shows rats scurrying around the pantry. The person filming the video also shows the number and name of the train.

“To provide hygienic and tasty food to passengers and to monitor quality Control #IndianRailways have appointed food tasters inside Pantry Cars. Pilot project inside Pantry Car of 11009 LTT Madgaon Express on 14th Oct 2023,” read the caption.

In response to the viral video, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has expressed its commitment to the matter, assuring passengers that suitable action has been taken.

“The matter is viewed seriously and suitable action has been taken.Pantry Car Staff have been sensitised to ensure hygiene and cleanliness in the pantry car. The concerned have been suitably advised to ensure effective pest and rodent control measures which is being ensured,” read the comment.
