US Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti visited a Durga Puja pandal in Delhi’s Chittaranjan Park (CR Park). A video shared on Eric Garcetti’s official X account shows the envoy enjoying some scrumptious Bengali street food during his pandal visit. Not just that, the US envoy also performed Dhunuchi naach.
Now Dhunuchi naach is a dance dedicated to Goddess Durga. According to mythology, Goddess Durga herself danced with Dhunuchi to channel energy within herself. For this very reason, even today, the Dhunuchi dance is an integral part of Durga Puja. It involves dancing with dhunuchi, which is a clay incense burner used during arti.
During his pandal visit, Garcetti also tried some jhalmuri, a street snack made up of puffed rice and spices. Then, he went on to try some biryani, followed by puri and fish. He obviously ended his meal with some Bengali sweets.
“Shubho Pujo, everyone! I had an incredible time pandal hopping in CR Park in Delhi, participating in the cultural festivities and of course, tasting some amazing Pujo food! As I continue to experience different celebrations across India, I remain in awe of @IncredibleIndia’s amazing cultural diversity,” the video caption reads.
